Scaling Impact-Driven Climate Action in Africa

With Co-Benefits to Smallholder Farmers

Introduction

Global demand for durable carbon removal is projected to reach 10 gigatonnes annually by 2050, yet the capacity to deliver it across Africa remains largely untapped.

At Stack Carbon, we are bridging this gap from the ground up, combining scientific rigor with deep community partnership to transform underutilized landscapes into scalable, high-integrity carbon removal systems.

Why We Exist

Climate action only works when it works for people and ecosystems.

Climate work in Africa

Africa holds immense potential for carbon removal, but scaling it responsibly requires trust, science, and deep local engagement. We exist to transform carbon removal from a specialized niche into a scalable, bankable asset class that restores African soil, empowers smallholder farmers, and secures a verifiable pathway to Net Zero.

Our Solutions

Stack Carbon offers durable, science-backed carbon removal solutions that deliver measurable climate impact and meaningful community benefits. Through Enhanced Rock Weathering and Biochar, we help organizations meet sustainability goals while regenerating land and supporting African smallholder farmers.

Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW)
Mineral

We deploy crushed silicate rock on agricultural land to permanently remove CO₂ while improving soil health and crop productivity. Our ERW projects are built with smallholder farmers, supported by rigorous MRV, and designed for long-term scalability.

Smallholder farmer partnerships from design to deployment.
MRV-first approach for integrity and buyer confidence.
Scalable systems built for long-term regional growth.
Biochar
Nature

We convert agricultural waste into stable biochar through controlled pyrolysis, locking carbon away for centuries while improving soils and generating clean energy co-benefits. Our biochar pathway prioritizes circular economies and community-first feedstock sourcing.

Community-first feedstock sourcing and local value creation.
Long-duration storage with measurable soil improvements.
Clean energy co-benefits from controlled pyrolysis systems.
Our Approach
Scientific carbon removal research

Science-Led

We align our projects with leading methodologies, robust lifecycle assessments, and third-party MRV frameworks to ensure environmental integrity and buyer confidence.

Smallholder farmers partnership

Human-Centered

Our work starts with people. We partner directly with smallholder farmers, providing technical skill development and immediate soil-health benefits to strengthen rural livelihoods.

Industrial carbon removal scaling

Built for Scale

From feedstock security to technology partnerships and market access, we design projects that can grow—from pilot to commercial scale— without compromising quality.

UGANDA

The Karibu Carbon Project (ERW)

Our flagship initiative in Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) targets massive regional scale. We are on a roadmap to engage 100,000 smallholder farmers and restore 250,000 hectares of land, achieving a removal potential of 1 million tonnes of CO₂ while driving a 30% increase in crop yields.

The Nile Char Project
(Biocar)

Focused on the circular economy and rural energy, Nile Char utilizes 50,000 tonnes of bamboo waste annually to generate high-quality biochar and clean energy. This pathway is projected to remove 30,000 tonnes of CO₂ each year while delivering a 25% increase in crop yields through superior soil moisture retention and nutrient availability.
